Explore historic Brooklyn, New York City’s largest borough and “home to everyone from everywhere.”
After meeting your local Brooklynite guide, you will be taken to a vantage point underneath the Brooklyn Bridge for an introduction to the lower Manhattan skyline, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn Heights, and the celebrated Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
Your morning will continue driving by Brooklyn’s many landmarks including its former City Hall, its 585-acre Prospect Park, the world famous Brooklyn Museum, several ethnic neighborhoods and the Rasputin nightclub seen in the recent Lifetime series “Russian Dolls.”
At Coney Island you will learn the social history of both the Island and its legendary amusement park.  You will hear why the area was once called “the Nickel Empire” and learn of its decline and eventual revival due to the driving forces of master builder Robert Moses and events such as the quirky Mermaid Parade and Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.  You will walk the 1923 Riegelmann Boardwalk past the iconic open-frame steel structure of Coney Island’s Parachute Jump, built not for the enjoyment of visitors but to train paratroopers during times of war.  You will walk by the 89-year old, 200-ton Wonder Wheel, the Cyclone Rollercoaster now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the New York Aquarium, and the new baseball stadium of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Your next stop will be Brighton Beach.  Known as “Little Odessa,” you will hear how it rode a wave of post Soviet migration in the 1970s and became home to a thriving population of Soviet refuseniks.  Here you will enjoy an authentic Russian lunch at the famous Primorski Restaurant, a Brighton Beach staple for over two decades and frequently referred to as “a slice of Moscow in Brooklyn”.
After lunch you will visit M & I International Food, a gourmet marketplace bustling with Russian locals and a mecca for everything from Eastern European imports to fresh Slavic delicacies.  You will visit Saint Petersburg Trade and Publishing House stocked with countless books and music, and a myriad of Russian collectibles.  Located in the heart of the Russian Community for nearly 15 years and occupying 10,000 square feet of merchandise, it is the largest Russian book and music store outside of Russia.

The tour includes motor coach transportation, services of a professional tour guide, lunch, and all taxes and gratuities per itinerary.
