Enjoy a day in Central Pennsylvania that is sure to please the shopper, the gourmand, and the oenophile.
Your morning will begin with an all-you-can-eat buffet at the County Cupboard Restaurant in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The repast will be replete with an assortment of hot and cold items, homemade soups, various salads and delicious desserts. The County Cupboard was opened in 1973 by Dan Baylor whose dream was to own a small restaurant, farmer’s market, and gift shop. But over the past several decades, the campus expanded to cover more than an acre of retail stores tastefully reflecting the seasons of the year. Time will be allotted for you to visit the Country Home & Interior Shop, the Flower Shop, the Celebrate the Seasons Shop, the Greenhouse, the Bakery, the Christmas Wonderland Shop and many others.
You will then travel to Mifflinburg and visit an artisan’s workshop where fresh, gourmet bath and body products are handcrafted. Here you will learn of the many aromatherapeutic benefits of scent options while you create your own bath salts to take home with you. Again, you will have time to browse the store’s many product lines.
You will continue your day at Williamsport’s Now We’re Cooking School. Founders Robin Glossner and Tina Goodrich opened this culinary institution in 2004, and it is the city’s only locally-owned-and-operated kitchen store establishment. Here you will watch as your hosts demonstrate everything you need to know in constructing a gingerbread house: how to mix the ingredients, how to cut and roll the dough, how to assemble the house, and how to decorate the finished product. Although the class is a chef demonstration/instructional course rather than a hands-on class, you will receive the necessary recipe, pattern, hints and tips for success, and creative ideas for decorating.
Your day will conclude at the Eagle Rock Winery for a private wine tasting. The winery is located in a whimsical, artistically refurbished factory known as the Pajama Factory. The building gained notoriety when it was used as the model for the 1950’s Broadway play and later movie, The Pajama Game, starring Doris Day. Owned by the Falat family, the winery will offer vintages perfect for pleasing any palate.
